The first candidate Matt every voted for was Ronald Reagan for President in 1980. Every vote and in every election since he has voted Republican.
In 1984 Matt was appointed to the Maryland State Police Academy and upon graduation in December 1984 he joined the ranks of Maryland’s Finest. He was also a member of the US Army Reserve and in 1985 was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Until 2001 when he was called to Active Duty with the US Army and as a Major at the time he balanced both careers. As there was end in sight for the Global War on Terrorism he retired from the Maryland State Police in 2006 and continued to serve on Active Duty with the US Army until retiring in Spring of 2014 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Matt worked on several GOP Campaigns in his off duty time. In both 1994 and 1998 her served as the Western Maryland Campaign Manger for Ellen Sauerbrey’s Gubernatorial Campaigns. In 2014 after retirement her served as the Campaign Manger for House of Delegates race in Maryland’s subdistrict 2B. Republican Delegate Brett Wilson was elected with a ten point margin over his Democratic opponent. For the previous 24 years the seat had been held by a Democrat.
When a vacancy occurred in the Washington County Republican Central Committee, he was recruited, nominated, and voted in. Matt also serves as an officer in both the Washington County Republican Social Club and the Washington County Republican Club PAC. He is a member of the following organizations: Hagerstown TEA Party, Republican Club of Frederick County, Frederick County Conservative Club, and the Allegany County Republican Club.
