Delegate Neil Parrott, State District 2A has announced this afternoon that he will NOT apply or seek the appointment to the vacant Senate Seat for District 2, vacated by Senator Andrew Serafini. Delegate Parrott has stated in a press release that as the Republican Nominee for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, he will focus on his race for Congress.
Delegate Parrott has the full backing and support of our Republican Party and we wish him well in his race to represent Western Maryland in Congress.
This announcement leaves the invitation to apply for the vacant Senate Seat to Delegate William (Bill) Wivell of District 2A, and Delegate Paul Corderman of District 2B.
The Washington County Republican Central Committee decided to limit the candidates for nomination to the Senate seat vacated by Senator Andrew Serafini. The committee limited the process to members of the current Legislative Delegation in District 2. This includes Delegates Paul Corderman, Neil Parrott, and William (Bill) Wivell.
The application deadline is 5pm on Tuesday, August 11th. We welcome public comment starting this evening. Comments can be made through our website: www.wcmdgop.com or leave a message at 301-739-2118. You can click on the button Legislative Vacancy Comments, and they will be reviewed by all 9 members of the committee.
On Thursday July 30th, 2020, Senator Andrew Serafini; Disctrict 2, announced that he would be resigning from the Maryland Senate effective today 8/1/2020. According to the Maryland Constitution Article III, Section 13, The responsibility for nominating a person to the Governor to fill his vacant seat rests with our Central Committee. We have 30 days to nominate to the Governor, and we will fulfill that obligation.
We are saddened to learn of this news as The Senator has served us well in Annapolis for the past 12 years. He has embodied the very esprit de corps of the Republican Party, working across the political aisle without rancor and malice that is common in Annapolis. The Senator will leaving to spend more time with his family and his business, and we thank them both for their sacrifices during his tenure in the Legislature.
When the Central Committee decides the process and timeline for the nomination, we will be making that public and will post here as well as on our Facebook page.

The Washington County Republican Party will be opening the doors of our new Republican Party Headquarters from 10am-noon this coming Saturday July 11th. It will ALSO be a Law Enforcement Appreciation Event in which we have invited our Sheriff, The Maryland State Police and various other local law enforcement agencies in Washington County.
NOW is the time for ACTION. NOW is the time to come out and show your support for our conservative values, and our law enforcement community. Come join us as we will have a ribbon cutting ceremony, food and refreshments, and many of our local, state elected officials, as well as Maryland Republican Party Leadership. The following resolution was written by our Chairman Jerry DeWolf and presented formally before the entire Maryland Republican Party at our 2019 Fall Convention in Annapolis Maryland for consideration. It was approved unanimously. It is as follows:
THE MARYLAND REPUBLICAN PARTY RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND OPPOSING THE PARTISAN IMPEACHMENT ATTEMPT AGAINST HIM
WHEREAS, we the members of the individual county Central Committees which comprise the Maryland Republican Party during our regular course of business at the Fall Convention held on Saturday, November 16th 2019 in Annapolis, Maryland, have duly executed this Resolution;
WHEREAS, Donald J. Trump won the Republican Primary for President in Maryland by a wide margin, and was elected to be the 45th President of the United States in November 2016;
WHEREAS, President Trump’s time in Office has seen him adhere strictly to the Principals and Platform of the Republican Party here in Maryland, and across our nation through reducing job crushing governmental regulations, strengthening our armed forces of these United States, being a champion for religious freedoms and civil liberties, growing our economy to include the lowest unemployment rate and highest workforce participation in nearly five decades, working to secure our borders, working hard to enact new national immigration policies, championing the use of our nation’s Natural Resources to allow the U.S. to be an energy exporting nation, while ushering in a new era of prosperity for all Americans;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, We, the Central Committee members of the Maryland Republican Party publicly support the President of The United States of America Donald J. Trump, that our support for the President is unwavering, and unshakable, and we encourage him to continue his outstanding and steadfast work for us the American People to Keep America Great; and
RESOLVED, that we stand united against the partisan impeachment attempt against him, which is another example of his political opponents attempting to overturn the will of the American People, and we strongly condemn their actions and reject their baseless allegations.
Last evening the 9 members of the Washington County Republican Central Committee met to elect officers to serve until Nov 2020. The Committee unanimously elected:
